Walking Outside

When the weather is nice the best thing is fresh air. Get out and stretch the legs. Move the arms. If you can go around a familiar neighborhood. Go to a park. A hike in a local park is a perfect engaging activity to do together. Talk about things going on in your lives. If you can hold hands and take it slow. Be aware of anything that might be an obstacle. Watch for branches or trip hazards in the walking path. A person with dementia may not be able to see everything in their path. Invite a friend to go with you. If you can go to a park and find a bench to sit and watch the children at the play ground. This is a great therapeutic activity you can do that is very engaging. You don't have to say a word.

Just be with the person you are caring for. Make sure you and the person are drinking plenty of water. If you need to stretch a little bit before and during the walk. You are doing great Enjoy engaging together.
